Massage therapy has been used for thousands of years. It has a long list of well-known benefits including relaxation, muscle release, and injury healing. But what if you could give those benefits a boost?
Nutrition supports all functions of our bodies. It provides building blocks, fuel, immunity, and even regulates mood. When healing from injury (or even preventing injury) we work to create an optimal environment for healing or recovery from exercise. Massage therapy and bodywork techniques reduce tension and over active areas for muscle while also improving blood flow to the area being worked. With improved nutrition this will not only flush out waste products but bring in needed nutrition and oxygen. Having adequate protein, vitamins B12, C, E, iron, magnesium and potassium, will enhance the healing session of massage.

Before a massage you can choose to eat whole fruits and vegetables. Meal timing will be important, as you will not want a full stomach during your session. Eat a couple hours before your appointment.
After your massage you should drink plenty of water. An extra 8-16 oz more than what you would drink on a typical day. This will help to flush your body and reduce inflammation. Eating lean protein, such as chicken or fish will help to repair muscle tissue. Healthy fats such as avocados and nuts will reduce soreness.
